The destination to enter in your satnav is “Rocchetta Nervina, Imperia”: typing the full name avoids confusion with other places called Rocchetta.

Getting to Rocchetta Nervina by car

The car is a practical choice if you are travelling with bikes or equipment, or want to move freely between the villages of the hinterland. The last stretch goes through the Val Nervia and Dolceacqua.

From Ventimiglia

From Ventimiglia, head for the mouth of the Val Nervia and follow the signs for Camporosso and Dolceacqua. Continue along the SP64, pass Dolceacqua and take the signposted junction for Rocchetta Nervina on the SP68.

From here, follow the access road to the village. To plan your departure time, check your satnav using your actual starting point: crossing the coast and traffic can affect journey times.

From Bordighera, Sanremo and the Ligurian Riviera

From Bordighera, reach the Val Nervia via Vallecrosia and Camporosso, then continue to Dolceacqua and take the turning for Rocchetta Nervina.

If you are coming from Sanremo or further afield, compare the coastal road with the motorway. The Bordighera and Ventimiglia tolls are two reference points for reaching this part of the hinterland: choose your exit according to where you are coming from and traffic conditions.

From Nice, Menton and Monaco

From the Côte d’Azur, head for Ventimiglia and continue towards the Val Nervia. If you take the motorway, the route goes from the French A8 to the Italian A10; once you leave the motorway, follow the route towards Dolceacqua and Rocchetta Nervina.

Before you set off, check the traffic around the border and along the coast, especially if you have to be on time for a hike or a booked activity.

Where to park in Rocchetta Nervina

On arrival, follow the signs for the parking areas and continue on foot to visit the old town. Avoid setting a street inside the village as your destination without first checking access with the place you are staying at.

To help you plan:

  • check rates, restrictions and temporary notices on site;
  • allow some extra time to park and reach the meeting point;
  • if you arrive with a van or a bike rack, check that the space you choose is suitable for the size of your vehicle;
  • if you are staying overnight, ask your accommodation which car park to use and how to handle your luggage.

If you have mobility needs, agree an accessible drop-off point before you arrive and check the pedestrian route to your destination.

Getting here by train

Rocchetta Nervina has no railway station. To plan a train journey, use Ventimiglia as your arrival point and arrange the transfer to the village separately.

Check train times for your date on Trenitalia if you are travelling from Italy, or on SNCF TER Sud if you are travelling from France.

From Ventimiglia you can continue by bus or by pre-booked taxi. Before buying your train ticket, check the connection and allow for the time needed to reach the bus stop: do not assume the bus leaves from right outside the station.

Buses from Ventimiglia to Rocchetta Nervina

The reference service is line 7 Ventimiglia–Rocchetta Nervina run by Riviera Trasporti. To choose your journey, check the up-to-date timetables and notices on the official website.

Check the validity of the timetable, the day of service, the departure stop and the actual arrival point in Rocchetta Nervina. Different arrangements for weekdays, public holidays and school periods may change your travel options.

Check the return journey before you leave. It is the most useful step when planning a car-free day, especially if you expect to come back after a hike. If the times do not fit your plans, consider a taxi booked in advance, agreeing the return trip too.

Arriving from Nice airport

Nice Côte d’Azur airport is an option to consider for reaching Rocchetta Nervina by air. From there you can continue by hire car, private transfer, or a combination of train and local transport.

For the public transport route:

  1. Get to Nice Saint-Augustin station following the official airport directions.
  2. Look for a train connection to Ventimiglia.
  3. Arrange the last leg to Rocchetta Nervina by bus or taxi.

Think about the whole journey, including baggage reclaim, transfers and waiting times. If your flight arrives late, check before booking how you will cover the final stretch.

Arriving with your mountain bike or e-bike

If you are coming to Rocchetta Nervina to ride, plan the journey around your bike and the meeting time.

With a bike in tow, the trip is best planned starting from the meeting time.
  • By car or van: ask for the exact meeting point and parking directions. The generic destination “Rocchetta Nervina” may not match where the activity starts.
  • By train: check the bike-carriage conditions for each individual service, including any reservations and restrictions. Check the rules for Italian and French services separately.
  • By bus or taxi: ask for explicit confirmation that bikes can be carried. A passenger service does not automatically mean a bike-carrying service.
  • Riding up from the coast: plan the route along the Val Nervia and the final approach to the village. These are roads open to traffic: consider your experience, elevation gain and range, especially if you want to tackle a trail ride after you arrive.

A bike shuttle dedicated to rides is not necessarily the same as a transfer from a station or airport: check the route and availability before organising your trip.
